Rose of Kao – 29.59ct

The Kao mine in Lesotho is renowned for uncovering pink diamonds, some of which have yielded exceptionally rare vivid polished results. One such discovery was the Rose of Kao, a 29.59-carat rough pink diamond recovered in 2018.

Acquired by Taché, the stone was carefully transformed into a remarkable 10.88-carat polished diamond, revealing the exceptional beauty and rarity of its fancy intense pink colour.

The polished diamond was eventually sold to Chopard, where it was rechristened the “Rose of Caroline” and became part of the Maison’s collection of exceptional stones destined for Haute Joaillerie.

Presented during Paris Haute Couture Week in 2022, the gem stood out not only for its extraordinary 10.88-carat size, but also for its radiant cut — a 70-faceted variation that enhances its brilliance, feminine hue and VVS1 clarity.

Named in tribute to Caroline Scheufele, the stone references both its rare pink colour and one of her favourite flowers.

Chopard later set the diamond into a refined ring design in ethical 18-carat white and rose gold, accented by heart-shaped rubies and a micro-setting of white and pink diamonds.

From its recovery at the Kao mine to its transformation by Taché and final creation by Chopard, the story of this exceptional gem highlights a remarkable journey from rough discovery to a high jewellery masterpiece.
